I. We use this tense to talk about things which are happening now. This tense is a way to indicate any action or event is happening now or may be ongoing. It adds energy and action to writing. It is also called as present progressive tense.

Its structure -- is am/is/are + (V1+ing)

I. This tense can be used to indicate future actions. It shows future plans or arrangements. Examples of this use are as follows.

1. She is going to attend online education from next year.

2. He is meeting his friends after this vacation.

3. I am going to the meeting after my class.

4. We are leaving tomorrow.

 II. Present continuous tense can be used for actions that are still happening at the of speaking. Examples are as follows.

1. Jane is attending his online class now.

2. They are writing exam right now.

3. He is cutting his nails now.

III. The present continuous tense  can be used to describe actions that are being repeated. Words like always , constantly and forever are used along with the verb. Examples of such type are as given below.

1. Tom and Jerry are always fighting.

2. Seeta is constantly working on her blogs.

3. Jack is leaving London forever.

IV.Present continuous tense can be used when speaking about current trends. Examples are given as follows.

1. Shopping online is growing in corona pandemic.

2. Eating fast food is increasing in all ages of groups.

3. the most people are using whatsapp for calling also.

 

There are certain verbs that cannot be used in the present continuous tense.

I. Communicating – agree, promise, surprise, know, recognize, understand, deserve

II. Emotions – like, love, hate sound

III. Sense – hear, see, smell, taste 

NEGATIVE FORM OF PRESENT CNTINUOUS TENSE

Subject + am/is/ are +not+ V1+ing+ object

Observe the following sentences.

1. I am going to school now.

Negative - I am not going to school now.

2. We are searching for our ball.

Negative - We are not searching for our ball.

3. He is playing piano.

Negative - He is not playing piano.

4. She is distributing food for needy.

Negative She is not distributing food for needy.

5. They are working on solar project.

Negative - They are not working on solar project.

 

INTERROGATIVE FORM OF PRESENT CONTINUOUS TENSE

Am/Is/Are + subject+ V1+ing + Object?

Observe the following sentences.

1. He is  going to school now.

Negative - Is he  going to school now?

2. They are searching for our ball.

Negative - Are they searching for our ball?

3. He is playing piano.

Negative – Is he playing piano?

4. She is distributing food for needy.

Negative—Is she distributing food for needy.

5. They are working on solar project.

Negative – Are they working on solar project?

Thus this present continuous tense is very important tense in the English language. It is the most commonly used tense. Its structure is simple and easy to understand. It indicates events that are happening right now, in the planned future.
