Tips to write Character Sketch
In primary
level writing the question answers is very easy task for languages. Mostly
students may get ready answers easily from textbook or study material. But for
higher classes the questions are very tricky. And mostly for 10th
and 12th (even for M A /B A )the answers from languages are very
lengthy. Students may feel bore to write these answers. But don’t worry I came
here to help you. Higher students have to
face many tricky questions. Within that there is question of ‘draw a character
sketch of particular character’. This answer may give you good score in exam.
When you
write a character sketch, you are trying to introduce someone to the reader. So
you should describe the person in such a way that reader can create an image in
his mind about that character.
Let us see how to write this answer.
1. Introduce the
character – write about character’s age, parents, location of
living, occupation. These basic things should come in first paragraph. Then
write that particular character’s relation to the main character. After this
introduction describe the physical appearance of the person.
2. Describe the behavior
Every person has good and bad qualities. Thus the character may have good
qualities or bad qualities, describe in proper way. You can give example
through the story for evidence. This may reflect the character’s behavior.
3. Relation with main character – if the
character sketch you are describing is not main character then write how it is related
to the main character.
4. Relation with
main plot --- If it is main character then portray how it is effecting
or relating to the main idea of the story.
5. Describe the
emotions --- Explain how the character behaves in certain
situation. Give details of that particular character in particular event, its
emotion, feeling and reaction. And highlight the characters point of view
through the behavior. Eventually students have to highlight the character’s
mentality in front of reader.
6. Illustrate the
character throughout the content --- Ultimately draw attention
to the character’s good qualities. If the character you are describing is
negative character then also focus on the personality like bravery, courage, intellect
.why the character behaved in such manner these all point gather in the last
paragraph.
7. End with
appropriate conclusion – End your answer with the character’s all
qualities. Conclude it with what happened with the character in the end.
These above
points have given here in general. One can make changes according to own
perspective. Thus you can draw the character sketch of the any character from
your content with the help of above points. Hope these tips may help you for student’s
