Today I am going to present some easy Summer Ragi drinks which can help you to keep your body cool. These drinks are very easy to prepare and not at all going to consume your time.

The very first summer drink is Ragi Ambli.

Ragi Ambil is an ancient recipe that is passed down from generations. I learnt it from my mother. She was very health conscious lady who had a large variety of healthy recipes.  This Ragi Ambil is very healthy, simple, easy and nutritious to all age people.

 

1. Ragi Ambil



Ragi ambil is also known as Ragi Malt. It is traditional drink from Karnataka. It is also popular in all states in India. It is combination of Ragi flour and buttermilk. This refreshing drink can be made sweet or savory. The best time to relish this drink is with your lunch or as a snack in between the meals.

 This nutritious drink is one of the best cooling beverages can be prepare within 15 minutes.  Let’s learn how to do this?

 

Recipe of  Ragi ambil   [Savory]

 

Details

Serving- 3

Cooking time- 15 minutes

Prep Time- 5 minutes

 

Ingredients

¼ cup + 2 tbsp finger millet flour (ragi flour/ Nachni flour)

3 cup water

1/2 tsp ginger-garlic paste

¼ tsp green chili paste

¼ cup yogurt/cur

¾ tsp cumin powder

½ cup water for buttermilk

Salt as per your taste

Procedure

1. In a pan pour2 cups water and heat it.



2. While water is heating, take a bowl and add finger millet flour to remaining 1 cup of water and also add salt, cumin powder, green chili paste, ginger-garlic paste. Use whisker to mix all ingredients. Avoid the lump while mixing it.



3. Pour this mixture into the boiling water. Keep stirring continuously.


4. Cook till the mix becomes thick soup like consistency.

5. Later turn off the heat and keep it aside.



6. Next in a bowl make buttermilk by mixing yogurt and ¼ cup water.



7. Serve the Ambil by mixing it in the buttermilk as per your requirement.



This Ambil you can have hot or cool as per your taste. Many of the people consume this in breakfast. You can also serve Ambil as a thick drink during summers. It is soothing to the tummy. You can also enjoy it as a soup.

 

Recipe of Ragi Malt [sweet]

Ingredients

2 tablespoon Ragi flour

½ cup water

2 cups milk

1 teaspoon jiggery

2 tablespoon Almond powder

½ teaspoon cardamom powder

½ teaspoon ghee(optional)

½ tablespoon dry fruit powder (optional)





Procedure

1. Take a bowl, add ragi flour and water. Mix it well. Make sure there should not be lumps in it.

2. Take pan, turn the gas stove on. Pour the mixture in the pan. Cook it well on medium flame until it changes colour.



3. Next add milk to it. Keep stirring well ensuring that there are no lumps in the ragi malt

4. Later add jiggery, ghee, cardamom powder and almond powder. Cook in medium flame until the ragi malt becomes little thick like porridge. Once done, turn off the gas stove.



5. When it cools, garnish with dry fruit powder and serve it cool.

This is a healthy power packed breakfast or a mid afternoon snack to keep your body strong and healthy. This is a super food for babies over 1 year and also for the old people in your home.
