Introduction
Sentence is the main part of any
language. In English grammar the sentence is the one of the most important part
to study. It has its own structure and some rules have to be followed while
writing the sentence.
What is a sentence?
For me sentence is like the country
of the world.
See, the world is made of so many
countries and islands. These countries are equipped with many states and the
states are formed by many cities.
In the same way if we consider the
language is the world then the sentences are the country and islands. The words
are the states of the country. The letters are the cities of the states. Thus
the sentences are the fundamental factor of the language.
Definition with explanation:
Now let’s come to the point of
sentences.
In general we can say that sentence
is a group of words. Now look below;
A
ball girl the with playing ball.
Now the above sentence is also a
group of words but we can’t say it is a sentence because the above sentence
doesn’t have any proper meaning.
Sentence is the grammatically complete series
of words.
Means as we refer land of
language it is called Syntax.
Syntax means the set of rule that
govern how words are combined to form a phrase and sentence.
Do you know what is story?
Yes …. It's an incident written in a
sequel. While writing a story we have to write some sentences in a correct
order.
Story mainly consists of some paragraphs. And paragraph includes many sentences. Sentences mean many words together. Now look at the following sentence..
1. "Kitchen Tina in cooking is
the".
2. Tina is cooking in the kitchen.
Which of these sentences is correct
sentence?
Yes, 2nd sentence is correct. Though, the
first sentence is a group of words it doesn't have any meaning.
Conclusion is that ....."Sentence is a group of
meaningful words that expresses a complete thought."
Only meaningful words are not enough we have to take
care of following things while writing the sentence.
Rules
1. Always start a sentence with capital letter.
First letter of any sentence should
be capital. If the sentence starts with common noun also it should be
capitalized.
For example
Birds fly in the sky.
In the above sentence the word ‘birds’
is the common noun but as it is the first letter of the sentence its first
letter is capitalized.
2. Write
the word in correct order.
Order of the words should be correct
then only the sentence carries correct meaning.
For example
1. King magician the called.
2. The king called magician.
The sentence 1 is a group of words
but there is no meaning as the words are not in a proper order. On the contrary
the sentence 2 has same words but they are in proper order so we can consider
sentence 2 as a correct sentence.
3. Place the punctuation marks properly.
According to the type of sentence place the
punctuation marks...such as question mark for question, exclamation for
exclamatory sentence, full stop for declarative sentence.
4. Main point is to spell the words properly to get proper meaning.
If one spells the words wrong then
the meaning of the word can be change or it can be meaningless.
For example
Shopkeeper sells the caps in low
price.
Now we write the above sentence in
the following manner
Shopkeeper sails the caps in low
prize.
Then there won’t be any proper
meaning for this sentence so be careful while writing the spellings.
Thus sentence is the fundamental
component of the language. Then language may English, Hindi, Sanskrit, Marathi,
Italian or anyone. The various novels, dramas, movies are written in any
language that is with the help of sentences only.
For me sentence is like the country
of our world.
See the world is made of so many
countries and island. These countries are equipped with many states and the
states are formed by many cities.
In the same way if we consider the
language is the world then the sentences are the country or islands. The words
are the states of the country. The letters are the cities of the states. Thus
the sentences are the fundamental factor of the language.
If you follow these rules you never
fail in writing the proper sentence.
