Paragraph writing in English class 10 is significant part in English writing skills. It is a distinct section of piece of writing that usually deals with a single theme. It begins on new line and is made of one or more sentences.

I would like to say it is a short version of essay writing. it is a series of sentences.  It contains seven to ten sentences. All sentences are related to the topic and closely related to each other. The sentences express a speaker’s thought on particular point in a clear way that is a unique and particular to the main point. All sentences are coherent and organized. This well organized paragraph supports and develops a single controlling idea. This leads to understand the main core and idea of the paragraph and create the clear image in the reader’s mind.

Main points involves for good paragraph writing in English are a topic sentence, supportive body sentences and logical conclusion. Apart from that there are four elements essential to good paragraph writing are; unity, order, coherence and completeness.

Now let’s see the main three elements of paragraph writing.

1. Topic sentence – this topic sentence is also known as subject sentence. Every paragraph has one solitary idea that is expressed in topic sentence. This is usually the first sentence of the paragraph. The paragraph is amalgamated around the main idea, with supportive sentences providing detail description. To write a good topic sentence think about the subject of the paragraph writing. Subject of the paragraph writing means think about the main theme of the paragraph. Make a decision which point is associated with your main core of the paragraph. One should keep in mind the main thing is that the topic /subject sentence should be refers to the topic of the paragraph.

2. Body of the sentences- this elaborates the topic described in the subject sentence. Here one has to remember about the order, coherency of the sentences. While writing about the topic don’t divert from the central idea of the paragraph. Order of the sentences may be logical, chronological or order of importance, but such a well order of sentences in paragraph is easy for reader to understand. Well order of sentences helps the reader to grasp your meaning and avoids confusion. Including this coherency is the best quality that makes one’s writing logical. Sentences in the body of the paragraph need to connect each other so they can work together as a complete. Because of this the readers can believe in you and visualize what you do. To make coherency in the body of the paragraph, you should connect the sentences by using transition words like first, second third or use the prepositions (above, below, up etc.) or conjunctions to join the sentences with coherency.

3. Concluding sentence – after elaborating the main idea it’s time to sum up. This should be logical ending of the paragraph. In the concluding sentence you should tie all the ideas in the body of the paragraph and also emphasize the main idea last time. Usually the main topic of the sentence restates in the concluding sentence.
