In English language exam paper the story writing is one of the writing skills. Usually everybody is aware about the story listening or reading as they are fond of reading or listening to story. And even we have listened lots of stories when we were kids. But this story reading or listening is not restricted up to students or children because adults, teenagers also read short stories, comics, novels and magazines. So story cannot be restricted only for kids. Nowadays also story reading and listening is very common thing for children.

But writing the story is one kind of skill. This is one of the writing skills in English language paper. However In exams this question carries minimum 3 to 5 marks. So to score more marks you can write story which is very interesting part in English writing skills. Let’s make it interesting by enlightening on the following points.

Writing a story means not only but a kind of narrating a story. This may be real story or retelling any fictitious events.

In simple words we can say that story is a sequence of events.

While writing a story in middle or primary school level the students will get some link points or clues.  They have to develop the points in proper sequence. So while developing the points you should remember the following points.

1. Plot: what is plot?

Plot means where the story takes place that place.

Suppose you are writing the story of lion and mouse. Then obviously the plot is – Jungle.

This plot is also known as setting.  This is nothing but where the story takes place.

2. Characters – after writing the plot next point is to write the characters from the story. After getting the clues of the story read them carefully then students will get the proper idea about the story after that write the characters of the story. In the story writing students can add one extra character that doesn’t mind. Students can use their imagination and write the story. But all story should be coherent. All events and characters should not be confusing.

3. Beginning of the story – the beginning of the story mostly starts with phrases like

1. Once upon a time

2. Long long ago

These above phrases help to set time frame.

4. Middle of the story--- when students develop the clues given they have to elaborate the clues. Include the dialogues in the narrative to make the characters livelier. Students should describe the events vividly. But the events should be correlated to each other.  Use of adjectives may helpful to make your story dynamic. Try to make your story vibrant. Actions of different characters should be described here. Description of the problem lays in the middle part of the story. This is the conflict of the story. Students should describe the conflict in such a way that readers should feel curiosity in the story. And after description of the conflict the story should come towards the solution.

5. End – after the conflict the story should come towards the solution. Then it is the time for conclusion of your story. It should be resolution of the problem. After solution the main last part is the moral of the story.                       

6. Title - The main and important part is the title of the story. After writing the story students should decide the proper title for the story. Title should be attractive and related to the main idea of the story. It should be appealing to the theme of the story. And it should be concise and apt. It shouldn’t be lengthy.
