In the present days the students are
struggling for scoring more and more marks. Especially the board exam
means very tough time for students as well as parents also. In the board
exams students won’t get any problem for the syllabus oriented questions.
But especially, they may face the problem in the Comprehension passages in the
English exam.
Let’s discuss about helpful point to
solve the Comprehension passages in English.
1. Reading – Here reading habit is tremendously helpful to solve the
passage. If the students have the habit of reading it’s supportive to build the
excellent vocabulary. So students get help to understand the passage.
2. Understand the question –
don’t read the passage first. When one comes across the passage don’t just go
on reading the passage. First read the question, understand the question. Then
read the passage thoroughly and carefully.
3. Understand the flow of passage – while reading the passage finds
the answers and try to understand the flow and theme of the passage.
4. Don’t emphasis the vocabulary – no need to understand the word to
word meaning. Don’t think more on the area which is not important. And try to
understand the essence of the passage.
5. Don’t stuck on one point – when you come across the passage first
time you may get confused and may stuck on one particular question. Instead of
that you leave one question and go for next question. This will save your time.
And also reduces your stress.
6. Be calm – if you are in stress you cannot understand the passage at
all and you will lose your valuable time. So when you read the passage try to
keep your mind cool.
7. Keep the question in your mind – when you are reading the passage
keep the question back of your mind. Continuously ask your mind why you are
reading the passage.
8. Focus on opening and closing of the passage- because the opening
and closing is essential for the author. So you can get clear idea in this area
only. You can understand the core of the passage.
9. Make notes of important point – it’s very difficult but if you are
practiced for this then this may truly helpful to you. Though it feels time
consuming, but you won’t deviate from the essence of the passage. Just write
very short notes so you may save from trigger words like but, however, or.
These words will surely confuse the reader. So making notes of clear point may
help you.
10. Read fast – reading fast can be possible by practice only. This may
not come instantly. For this students should dedicate your time for
reading. So practice of reading is very
much helpful for student. After all ‘Practice makes man perfect’.
11. Don’t draw outside conclusion – don’t make any conclusion which is
not from the passage or from your own perspective. Just try to understand the
passage itself.
12. Find your own strategy – the strategies may help you to solve the
passage. But they general strategies, can vary from person to person. You can
find which one is applicable for your study method.
All these tips may help you to solve comprehension passage in English. But habit of
reading boost your vocabulary and that is much beneficial for this unseen
