Lake in Ladakh
The Himalayan Mountains have always been a
destination for adventure travelers in the world. There are many secrets hidden
in the belly of Himalaya. One of the mysteries is a reservoir located in the
Himalayas at a height of about 14000 feet above sea level.
This
reservoir changes its color three times a day in Ladakh. This lake in Ladakh is
called Chandratal. This reservoir in Ladakh is shaped like a half moon that is
in crescent shape, that's why it is called Chandratal.

Lake is often reffered to as one of the most beautiful lakes located at an altitude about 4300 m in the mighty Himalayas. This lake in
Ladakh is situated on the Samudra Tapu plateau in the Lahaul region of the
Lahaul and Spiti district. It is the source of the Chandra River.
In the
world, this reservoir is known as “The Moon Lake”. This place is crowded with
tourists 365 days a year in Ladakh. The water of this lake is clear and transparent
like glass in the morning. This lake in Ladakh changes its color in the
afternoon and evening. The color of the water in this lake keeps changing from reddish to orange to blue
to emrald green as the day ends.The Silk Route flourished all over the world
because of this reservoir, the reservoir area in Ladakh was once an important
place for Tibetan and Ladakh traders who traveled here and there.
One famous
legend is about this lake is that the Chandratal Lake lies in the vicinity of a place from where God
Indra’s chariot picked up Yudhishthira, the eldest of Pandava brothers on
Mahabharata. This fact makes the lake sacred and thus, is flocked by a lot of
Hindu devotees.
